MX-5’s New Engine Delivers More Power
New for 2019, Miata has a better breathing 2.0 liter inline-four SKYACTIV engine with internal revisions that give it 700 more rpm than previous models.
That power comes from enlarging the throttle body, intake and exhaust valves and connecting parts. Mazda also made the pistons and connecting rods lighter and stiffened the crankshaft. The result is 26 more horses and three more lb-ft of torque.
All that extra power doesn’t cost owners in terms of gas mileage. The manual 2019 MX-5 Miata gets an impressive 26/34 mpg on the city/highway while the automatic gets 26/35.
