For many East Texas families, summer means more driving than any other time of year. The first step to getting the best gas mileage is to drive a Mazda. We’ll show you what type of fuel efficiency each model offers so you can evaluate Mazda against what you currently drive. Then we’ll offer tips for reducing fuel consumption every time you’re behind the wheel.

Research Mazda Fuel Economy

The U.S. Department of energy says one of the best ways to reduce gas usage is to choose a fuel efficient vehicle. Every Mazda is fuel efficient. Here are the numbers for our 2018 lineup.

  • Mazda3 4-Door – 36 EPA estimated highway miles per gallon (MPG).
  • Mazda3 5-Door – The hatchback option provides 35 highway miles per gallon.
  • Mazda6 – Our stunning sedan provides power and comfort and still averages 35 MPG.
  • Mazda CX-3 – Haul people and cargo and save at the same time with an EPA estimated 34 MPG.
  • MAZDA CX-5 – Enjoy a roomy crossover SUV that runs on a mere 31 MPG.
  • Mazda CX-9 – Transport seven passengers comfortably in our largest SUV for only 28 MPG.
  • MX-5 Miata – Sports cars aren’t known for their fuel economy, but this roadster gets 35 MPG.

Reduce Idle Time

You don’t need to warm up your car when you leave for work in the morning. If you’re in the habit of starting your car and letting it idle while you go back in for your coffee and briefcase, you’re wasting gas unnecessarily. Wait until the kids have located their backpacks and you’re ready to go to save fuel.

Fuel Early or Late

Gas is more dense at lower temperatures. Buy your fuel first thing in the morning or after dusk when temperatures are low and get a little more for every penny you spend. It also helps to head to the gas station during the middle of the week. Gas prices are higher at the beginning and the end when people are fueling up for their weekly commute or getting gas for the weekend ahead.

Adjust Driving Habits

If you could take a sneak peek inside the thoughts of almost everyone at our dealership, you’d find as a whole we love nothing better than the thrill of a powerful engine on the open road. Since this is an article on fuel economy, we feel duty bound to tell you fast accelerating and sudden braking also consumes more gas. Staying below the speed limit uses less gas.

If you can’t stand it, we can’t either. Drive a Mazda. They’re already efficient so you don’t have to have all the fun sucked out of driving just to save a little fuel.

Check Your Tire Pressure

Low tire pressure increases resistance. Stop by our service center and we’ll do it for you.

Trade Your Gas Guzzler

Gas prices are climbing, and they’re going to continue to rise through the rest of the summer. That money you put in the tank, you never get back. Invest in a ride that’s better for your wallet, your family and the environment. Get in touch with our staff and we’ll help you explore your options today.
