When you test drove your Miata, you probably fell in love with its sporty powertrain as much as you did its stunning good looks. Since its introduction in 1989, MX-5 has dominated racing competitions year after year. Motor Trend says Miata is “the ideal race car for rookie or expert.”

Miata is the most raced car in the world not just because it’s affordable, but because it performs. If you long for a sporty, thrilling driving experience, see why MX-5 is the choice of both racecar drivers and daily commuters around the globe.

Born to Race

When someone pulls up next to you at a stoplight and revs their engine, what do you want to do? If you’re in your MX-5, you’re probably tempted to show off. Spec Miata is the most popular club-racing class. Almost one in six amateur race entries every weekend in the US is a first or second generation Miata. Since the beginning, MX-5 has had the soul, engine and handling of a car designed for racing.

The MX-5 Cup car is a fourth-generation Miata built by Long Road Racing (LRR) in North Carolina. Mazda wants each of them to have the same specs, so it chose LRR as the only Global MX-5 Cup car builder.

Built to Excel

The Global MX-5 Cup car comes off the production line just like the models you can buy at Velocity Mazda, then undergoes over 250 modifications and component changes before it hits the track.

Mazda Motorsports sends LRR MX-5 Sport models with 6-speed manual transmissions coated in Arctic White. The paint choice trims several pounds off models painted Soul Red Metallic.

LRR completely disassembles each car and welds on an FIA, SCCA and NASA approved roll cage. They pull out the seam seals and sound deadening material that add weight and repaint everything a durable industrial gray. Then they reassemble the car with racing components in the engine bay, drive train, suspension, brakes, interior and body.

The factory engine remains stock, but everything from the motor mounts to the digital instrumentation panel gets a racing upgrade. When buyers receive cars they’re track-ready, but no longer legal to drive on the street.

Where to Buy

Anyone can buy a racecar through Mazda Motorsports or Long Road Racing when you visit their website. If you want something with the same sexy styling and powerful performance you can also drive to work, come to Velocity Mazda. Check out our available inventory today.
